Music Roots...

I have been trying to find some good music to listen to recently and I have found some new bands that are pretty amazing, but I keep going back to my music roots. Its like sitting down on a big comfy recliner just listening to my favorite albums.... In no particular order here they are:

Foo Fighters: The Colour and The Shape

This CD is loaded with some of the BEST Foo songs. I probably feel that way cause I have every song burned into my brain... I just love the range of emotions from every song. It just leaves me like I just stretched every muscle in my body. I feel like it explains a lot about me, but I don't know how... Dave Grohl has had some amazing life experiences and he writes these songs that makes you feel like you have been apart of them, but at the same time it feels like they helped you thru your life experiences... And how can I mention The Foo Fighters without saying something about Nirvana? Nirvana made the world buzz in the early 90's by creating a whole new genre of music... Plus they sing a song about me... Michael makes fun of me when I say (cause I say it a lot) "I love the Foo!"
Ps. If you go to the Foo Fighters website, you can listen to all of their Cd's for free!

Weezer: Blue Album

I know this is probably "trendy" of me, but I don't care. From My Name is Jonas, to the Sweater Song, to Holiday, to the Garage and who can forget Buddy Holly? I connected to these guys. They have a way to make their light-hearted songs have meaning... I'm not gonna lie, Their songs can put my in such a good mood that the stupidest person couldn't ruin. To say that I love Weezer just isn't enough, but I can't find the words to describe it exactly... Michael thinks they are weird, and maybe they are compared to the rest of the music world, but hey, who doesn't have a weird side to them?

Third Eye Blind: Self Titled

This was the first CD I ever bought, AND I love it. Your probably thinking YIKES a little girl was listening to songs about drugs and sex!? OK, at the time I honestly had no idea...Lol. This is kind of a depressing album, but it helped me get thru the (what I thought was) tramatic break-ups or hard times. I connected to the emotion he was singing into the microphone. Motorcycle driveby is probably one of the most beautiful songs ever. Seriously. Listen to it. and I'm not talking about the words. (although the words are moving too) Listen to the music. Its very poetic... (yes deep for this blog I know)

Otis Redding: The Very Best of Otis Redding

I didn't come across him til I was a freshman in college. But he sure had a huge influence on me. I DARE you to listen to his music, and not like it. Soul music is one of my favorite kinds of music. He wrote some of the songs that you sing in your car at the top of you lungs when you think no one is looking. For Example, he wrote 'I can't get no Satisfaction' and, 'R-E-S-P-E-C-T', 'Try a Little Tenderness' and, 'Sitting on the Dock of the Bay'.
Besides that, he is pretty much awesome. He was a big deal in the soul music business, but unfortunately he died in an airplane accident before he even got to the top of his career. 'These Arms of Mine' pretty much melts my little heart every time I hear it, well I guess most of his songs melt my little heart... I could go on and on about Otis all day, every song I have heard of his is addicting to your soul. He is on youtube check him out. (His CD's are a little hard to find considering that he died when my parents were 6...)

Counting Crows: Films about Ghosts The best of Counting Crows

Umm... Can we say awesome!? I remember being stuck at a light and there were two motorcycle cops in the next lane over and one of their songs came on the radio and I could not resist. I gave into the sweet melodies that make up the counting crows and I turned it all the way up and sang at the top of my lungs. The two cops probably thought I was on something. (at the time I had my Suzuki Sidekick so they heard everything) I am not ashamed of this event nor do I regret it. The cops probably heard it was the Counting Crows and tapped their feet and silently sang the words with me... The vibe they put out is addicting. If you live under a rock and and never gave in to Counting Crows, buy this CD and it will change your world! (I'm not joking, it will...)

The Beatles: One

I'd be lying if I didn't include the Beatles in this list of my amazing bands that I love. What can I say about The Beatles that hasn't been said? I'm positive that all the bands that I love were influenced by them in some way, shape, or form. I wish all if them were still alive so I could go to one of their concerts and scream my guts out with all the other crazy girls. I picked this CD only because it has most of their greats on it. But lets be honest, anything The Beatles did was AMAZING...
Enough about who they were. What they did... The way they made love songs from simple ideas that translated to everyone that heard it. 'I want to hold your hand' a simple thought made the whole world melt. 'All you need is Love' again a simple thought that changed the way most people viewed the world. Later on the simplicities faded and dept replaced it. Life gets complicated and so did the meanings behind their music. (obviously drugs helped things get complicated...) But the music is still good. To this day you can ask anyone on the street if they like The Beatles and they will tell you, "No, I LOVE them."
Ps. If you haven't seen the movie, Across the Universe you need to. (I'm just sayin...)

Ok, so that's all I think of at this point. I'm sure I'm forgetting somebody and it will devastate me when I remember... So maybe I might have to do another post... shucks! ;)
